57-year-old Caucasian female was diagnosed with TMJ in 1996, status post dental work (bridge removal from lower jaw), which eventually developed into trigeminal neuralgia. Her pain level at that time was 10 on a Pain Assessment scale of 1-10. Her physician tried Tegretol and Ibuprofen with very little relief. On 4-16-98, her physician prescribed a transdermal gel to be applied to the jaw joints three times daily. She states, "The gel really helped me more than anything else!" After applying the gel for two weeks, her pain had decreased dramatically. Her pain level dropped to 4 on a Pain Assessment scale of 1-10. With this reduced pain level, she was also able to reduce the Ibuprofen that she was taking on a daily basis to two tablets, and the Tegretol had already been discontinued.
